DashCam Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 29, 2026

This page explains what information the DashCam app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the app you agree to the practices described here. DashCam records to your phone, not to a server. Your video, your audio and your GPS traces stay in the app's own storage on the device. There is one exception, it is off until you switch it on, and even then the data goes to your own iCloud account where we cannot read it.

Video, Audio and Photos

Recordings are written to DashCam's private storage area on your device. They are not uploaded, not shared and not visible to us. Loop recording deletes the oldest unlocked clip once your chosen storage cap is reached, and unlocked media is removed automatically after 30 days. Clips you lock, including those locked automatically when an impact is detected, are never deleted by either rule.

Exporting a clip or a time-lapse to your photo library, or sharing one through the iOS share sheet, happens only when you ask for it, and the destination is whichever app or person you choose.

Location and Speed

DashCam uses your location to show your speed, to draw the on-screen overlays and mini-map, and to record a speed and position track alongside each clip so an exported video can show what the display showed at that moment. All of it is stored on the device with the recordings.

Share Location sends your current position, and optionally the address, time and speed, to a person you pick, at the moment you tap it. Nothing is sent otherwise, and we never receive it.

Motion and Impact Detection

The accelerometer is read continuously while recording so that a sudden impact can lock the surrounding footage before loop recording overwrites it. The readings are processed on the device and are not stored beyond a short rolling buffer, unless an impact occurs and you have turned on iCloud impact backup.

Driver Monitoring

Driver monitoring, when you enable it, watches the front camera for signs of a microsleep. Nothing is recorded while it runs. No image, no face landmark and no measurement derived from your face is stored or transmitted, to us or to anyone else.

iCloud Impact Backup

This feature is off until you turn it on in Settings. When it is on and DashCam detects an impact, it saves a short record of that impact to your own private iCloud database, so that evidence of a crash survives even if the phone is damaged or lost. The record contains:

It does not contain the video. The clip stays on your phone.

The record is written to the private database of your iCloud account, the same place your personal app data lives. The sensitive fields and the still image are encrypted, and Apple's design means the developer of an app cannot read the private data of its users. We cannot see your impact records. They count against your iCloud storage allowance, not ours.

Turning the setting off stops any further uploads. To remove records already saved, you can delete DashCam's data from your iCloud account in the iOS Settings app, under your name, then iCloud.

Usage Analytics

To understand which features are used and where the app fails, DashCam sends anonymous product-usage events to Amplitude, our analytics provider. These are counts, durations, settings values and feature names, for example that a recording started, that a setting was changed, or that a purchase completed.

We never send coordinates, addresses, file names, video, photos, audio, or anything derived from your footage or your face. Amplitude assigns a random identifier to the installation and derives an approximate region from the network address, as described in its own documentation. There is no advertising identifier, no advertising, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. DashCam does not sell your data and does not share it with data brokers.

Purchases

In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. The app records only whether a purchase is active, so that it can unlock what you paid for.

Diagnostic Logs

DashCam keeps a technical log on the device to help diagnose problems such as a recording that stopped or a device that overheated. Logs are kept for seven days and then deleted. They are readable inside the app, and they leave the device only if you export and send them to us yourself.

Information We Receive

We do not operate servers that collect your information. If you email us for support, we receive whatever you choose to include in that email, and we use it only to answer you.

Third Parties

The third parties involved are Apple, which provides iCloud, In-App Purchases and the photo library, and Amplitude, which provides the anonymous usage analytics described above. We encourage you to review their policies for how they handle information.

Security

Recordings and logs are stored in DashCam's protected container on your device and are covered by the iPhone's own file protection. Impact records sent to iCloud are encrypted, and their sensitive fields are encrypted in a way that keeps them readable only within your own account. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Safety Disclaimer

DashCam is a recording tool and is not a safety system. Impact detection, driver monitoring and speed display can be wrong, delayed or unavailable, and they are no substitute for attentive driving or for stopping when you are tired. Do not operate the app while driving, and mount your phone so it does not obstruct your view.

Children's Privacy

DashCam is intended for licensed drivers. The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
